peakmarks® Version 10.2 Documentation

The technology has evolved since the release of peakmarks® version 9 in 2016. The peakmarks® version 10 has been revised for the cloud age. We have adapted and optimized the workloads and simplified working with the peakmarks® software.

The documentation is available in the form of PowerPoint presentations and can, therefore, also be used for workshops.

Part 1 peakmarks® Installation

The Installation Guide describes the step-by-step installation of peakmarks® Version 10 in an Oracle 19c, 21c, and (soon) 23c container database. Please note that the peakmarks® software is optimized for each Oracle version, and each Oracle version has a separate peakmarks® Distribution Kit.

Customizing the Oracle database and instances is recommended to get optimal performance results. Here you can find the peakmarks® checklist for a setup.

The data of the peakmarks® database is generated synthetically. The highly scalable architecture of peakmarks® allows fast loading of more than 4 TByte per hour on powerful systems.


Part 5 peakmarks® Key Performance Metrics

All peakmarks® workloads and their performance metrics are described in detail here. Examples of KPM reports on our reference system deepen the understanding and show how an Oracle platform can be systematically measured.

peakmarks® offers different ways to configure the performance tests:

The Smart configuration is fully automated and is the most convenient and fastest way to get a complete overview of the performance of an Oracle database platform.

The Sample configuration allows a quick performance check within a short period (1 hour), e.g., during a maintenance window. This procedure is used after system changes and for cloud services to verify that the agreed performance is still available.

The manual configuration supports a maximum of configuration options and is often used by system engineers to analyze specific load situations or to find configurations for maximum performance numbers.
